Sure enough, he was ready this week. He was very proud of himself and even jumped in the deep end. I will have to get some video of this. The whole thing reminded me of Vigotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, which suggests that kids always have an zone of where they can go next in their learning and that it is best to push it but not too much.

Aidan is spending lots of time in the water. A few weeks ago, we were swimming at Beaver Lake in Ware, Massachusetts and were out on a dock. I have expected for sometime that he would be close to jumping … Continue reading →

"sfsi_plus_gutenberg_show_text_before_share":"
[4

post-97","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-childdevelop

Fear and Learning - Kids Engineer!

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"Article","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97#article","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97"},"author":{"name":"JohnHeffernan","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#/schema/person/fd9d549ccd0fb2c6c495705a81039438"},"headline":"Fear and Learning","datePublished":"2011-07-17T12:16:51+00:00","mainEntityOfPage":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97"},"wordCount":372,"commentCount":0,"publisher":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#/schema/person/fd9d549ccd0fb2c6c495705a81039438"},"articleSection":["Child Development"],"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"CommentAction","name":"Comment","target":["https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97#respond"]}]},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97","url":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97","name":"Fear and Learning - Kids Engineer!","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#website"},"datePublished":"2011-07-17T12:16:51+00:00","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=97#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":"Home","item":"https://kidsengineer.com/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"name":"Fear and Learning"}]},{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#website","url":"https://kidsengineer.com/","name":"Kids Engineer!","description":"To understand and promote engineering education in elementary schools.
