The author has noticed the same phenomenon in elementary and middle school open-ended engineering challenges based on robotics. The study suggests that frustration and challenge are necessary to induce high interest and motivation even on unfamiliar topics. Further research might untangle the relationship between difficult problems, frustration, challenge, and motivation in the adaption of difficult computer science problems for K-12 students.

It was extremely valuable and interesting for me to take a lesson I have been doing for twenty years and examine it in-depth and against the background of extant research and theory. For example, the research provided insights into how … Continue reading →

"sfsi_plus_gutenberg_show_text_before_share":"
[11,5

post-612","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-research","category-teaching

4 Color Map Problem Research Conclusion - Kids Engineer!

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"Article","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612#article","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612"},"author":{"name":"JohnHeffernan","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#/schema/person/fd9d549ccd0fb2c6c495705a81039438"},"headline":"4 Color Map Problem Research Conclusion","datePublished":"2013-04-18T21:11:59+00:00","dateModified":"2013-04-18T21:12:56+00:00","mainEntityOfPage":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612"},"wordCount":225,"commentCount":0,"publisher":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#/schema/person/fd9d549ccd0fb2c6c495705a81039438"},"articleSection":["Research","Teaching"],"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"CommentAction","name":"Comment","target":["https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612#respond"]}]},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612","url":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612","name":"4 Color Map Problem Research Conclusion - Kids Engineer!","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#website"},"datePublished":"2013-04-18T21:11:59+00:00","dateModified":"2013-04-18T21:12:56+00:00","breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612"]}]},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/?p=612#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":"Home","item":"https://kidsengineer.com/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"name":"4 Color Map Problem Research Conclusion"}]},{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://kidsengineer.com/#website","url":"https://kidsengineer.com/","name":"Kids Engineer!","description":"To understand and promote engineering education in elementary schools.
