The Times They Are A Changing

I was teaching robotics today at a new school and the 6th graders were timing their cars to determine the velocity.  I started to tell them to use the second hand of the classroom clock to time their cars going 10 feet.  Then I noticed that the clock’s second hand was gone, like many school clocks.  So I got really nervous because I had no plan B especially because I was not at my home school.  All the kids spontaneously offered to get their cell phones, which had timers.  It’s interesting that we have all this technology in schools that sits in backpacks but I was glad to put it to use.  It really saved the day.
